Donation receipts and certificates

Configure donation receipts and understand the separate personalized certificate flow.

Donation receipts and certificates

moschee.io has two different documents: a donation receipt for eligible organization tax purposes and a personalized certificate for a gift or in-memory dedication.

Configure donation receipts

Open /donations/settings?tab=receipts and enable receipt issuance only when the organization is recognized as tax-exempt and is prepared to provide accurate information. The settings form can contain:

  • Tax number
  • Tax office
  • Authorized signatory
  • Charitable purpose

Save the settings and review the organization details before directing donors to receipt downloads.

The application explicitly states that the organization is responsible for the accuracy of these values and for its tax-exempt status. Enabling the toggle is not legal or tax advice.

Donor receipt behavior

The donor portal can list calendar years with eligible succeeded donations when receipts are enabled. The donor selects a year and downloads a PDF from /donations/portal/receipt.

The receipt builder aggregates succeeded donations for the donor and organization, assigns a stable receipt number for that organization, donor, and year, and includes the donation line items. Offline entries are part of the donation model and should therefore be recorded with correct donor and date information when a receipt is expected.

A donor without eligible donations for a selected year cannot receive a receipt for that year. A non-tax-exempt organization does not show the receipt section in the portal.

Personalized certificates

When a donor chooses As a gift or In memory of during a successful checkout, the success page can offer a personalized certificate. The certificate uses the honoree, occasion, donor message, amount, organization, donation date, and selected locale stored with the successful donation.

The donor can download the certificate from /donations/certificate. If a recipient email was supplied, the donor can also request that the certificate be sent to that address. A personalized certificate is not the same as a tax receipt and does not require the organization to be tax-exempt.

Data quality checklist

  • Use the organization’s official legal information.
  • Confirm the tax-exempt status before enabling receipts.
  • Collect the donor address when it is required for the organization’s receipt process.
  • Do not call a personalized certificate a tax receipt.
  • Re-check a downloaded PDF before distributing it.
